Öğe A Novel Approach for Material Handling-Driven Facility Layout(Mdpi, 2024) Erik, Adem; Kuvvetli, YusufMaterial handling is a widely used process in manufacturing and is generally considered a non-value-added process. The Dynamic Facility Layout Problem (DFLP) considered in this paper minimizes the total material handling and re-arrangement cost. In this study, an integrated DFLP model with unequal facility areas, assignment of material handling devices (MHD), and flexible bay structure (FBS) is considered, and it is aimed to propose fast solution approaches. Two different solution methods are proposed for the problem, which are the genetic algorithm and the simulated annealing algorithm, respectively. In both methods, a non-linear mathematical model solution was used to calculate the fitness values. Thus, the solutions in the feasible solution space are utilized. The proposed solution approaches were applied to solve four problems published in the literature. The computational experiments have validated the effectiveness of the algorithms and the quality of solutions produced.Öğe AI, Robotics, and Autonomous Systems(CRC Press, 2023) Kuvvetli, Yusuf; Erik, AdemArtificial intelligence has undoubtedly become one of the most important issues in today’s world with the rise of the Internet and the increasing computing capacity of computers. With the transfer of expertise to artificial intelligence and robots in many subjects that humans can do, the formation of autonomous systems has become possible. Nowadays, in many production environments, industrial robots, autonomous systems, and artificial intelligence are used in all areas, from warehouse management systems to production, marketing, and distribution. In this study, the use of artificial intelligence and robotic systems in the supply chain has been evaluated from the perspective of sustainability. In addition, a mathematical model is presented and solved for the lot size determination problem, which is one of the supply chain decisions. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Turan Paksoy and Muhammet Deveci; individual chapters, the contributors.Öğe Layout and Location Strategies(CRC Press, 2023) Erik, Adem; Kuvvetli, YusufFacility location and layout problems are some of the most essential issues in business management. The fact that it is a long-term strategic decision and that all changes to be made after the installation of the facility have significant effects on both production and costs make these decisions more important. In this study, the impact of smart technologies and sustainability on the problem of facility location and layout was examined. In this context, the facility layout problem has been defined, and this problem has been integrated with sustainability and smart technologies. A sustainable facility layout problem involving smart technologies has been described and solved. © 2023 selection and editorial matter, Turan Paksoy and Muhammet Deveci; individual chapters, the contributors.Öğe The Type-2 Q-rung Orthopair CoCoSo method for Workplace Design Problems on the Metaverse(Sciendo, 2023) Erik, Adem; Kuvvetli, Birsen Irem; Kuvvetli, Yusuf; Hamidy, Sakhi MohammadThe development of technology is changing and transforming business models in the production and service sectors around the world. Especially in this age when the fourth industrial revolution is effective with different instruments such as artificial intelligence, internet of things, and cyber physical systems, the necessity of physical presence of people in the workplaces is gradually decreasing. Like many things developed in the virtual world, the virtual arrangement of workplaces is a very innovative undertaking. It is clear that the advantage of time and cost are the main reasons for the positive reception of the idea of workplace design in the metaverse environment. In this article, the criteria for workplace design in the metaverse environment of a company operating in the IT sector were examined and alternative metaverse platforms for workplace design using these criteria were evaluated. CoCoSo method based on the Interval Type-2 q-rung orthopair fuzzy sets is used in making the evaluations. Among the 6 criteria seen as important in the study, privacy and security, size and scale, and functionality were the three most important criteria. Among the alternative platforms evaluated, Rooom and Voxels are the first two platforms to be preferred.
