Elderly Information Form, Mini-Mental Scale, and McGill Pain Scale were used. . Data were considered statistically significant at the p < 0.05 level. Parametric methods were used for normally distributed data. Results: 82.9% of the elderly had a chronic disease and were using drugs continuously, and the number of drugs used by 42.9% was between 1-3. According to McGill's Pain severity assessment, 34.3% of them experienced mild pain. Between the gender of the elderly and the McGill Melzeck pain severity averages they experienced, the average pain score of the female gender was found to be significantly higher than the pain average of the male gender (t(68)=-1.99, p=0.05). When the behaviors of the elderly against pain were examined, 62.9% reported that they preferred to talk, 72.9% to rest, 52.9% to plan rest periods, and 55.7% to get support from their religious beliefConclusion: In this study, the severity of pain and behaviors of the elderly against pain were evaluated.Öğe Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the family and social lives of healthcare professionals(Cukurova Univ, Fac Medicine, 2022) Akpolat, Refiye; Sisman, Hamide; Alptekin, Dudu; Gokce, Esma; Gezer, Derya; Arslan, SevbanPurpose: In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the impact of the novel coronavirus-2019 (COVID-19) on the family and social lives of frontline healthcare workers during the pandemic. Materials and Methods: A total of 136 frontline healthcare workers working in COVID-19 clinics and wards, intensive care units (ICUs), and emergency units were included. A questionnaire consisting of 19 questions was applied to all participants through face-to-face interviews. The demographic and occupational characteristics and family and social lives of the participants were documented. Results: While 95 (69.9%) of the participants experienced negative consequences in their family life, 91 (66.9%) of them were found to have negative consequences in their social life. 51 of the healthcare professionals (37.5%) used spirituality as a strategy to cope with negative thoughts and emotions. During the pandemic, a statistically significant relationship was found between frontline work and family life, especially for those with children. Conclusion: The family and social lives of healthcare professionals who care for patients with Covid are adversely affected.Öğe Investigation of Knowledge Level of Health Personnel Working in COVID-19 Clinics and Compliance with Isolation Measures(Cem TIRINK, 2022) Alptekin, Dudu; Gezer, Derya; Gökçe, Esma; Şişman, Hamide; Özgen, Refiye; Arslan, SevbanThis study aims to determine the level of knowledge of healthcare personnel working in COVID-19 clinics and to assess their compliance with the isolation precautions. This descriptive-correlational study was conducted between June 1 and June 30, 2020, and involved 136 healthcare personnel working in the COVID-19 clinics of a university hospital who volunteered to take part in the study, and who subsequently took part in face-to-face interviews. The data was collected using a personal information form that included descriptive properties and a Compliance Scale with Isolation Precautions (CSIP). Mean age of the healthcare personnel was 34.11±7.65 (years), and 64.7% were female. The mean CSIP score was 76.16±14.02. Almost all of the participants had received training in isolation precautions, and a large majority found the training to be adequate. The mean CSIP scores of the female participants were significantly higher than that of their male counterparts (PÖğe Psychological Outcomes 1 Year After Restrictive Bariatric Surgery(Galenos Publ House, 2023) Gezer, Derya; Yurtseven, Seyma; Alptekin, Dudu; Erden, Sevilay; Arslan, SevbanObjective: To reveal the depression and body image changes observed in patients undergoing bariatric surgery. Methods: This prospective study followed a descriptivecorrelational study design. The study population consisted of patients hospitalized in the general surgery clinic of a university hospital in order to evaluate the depression symptom level and body image of patients undergoing bariatric surgery. The study sample comprised 22 patients who were admitted to the general surgery clinic of the same hospital and met the following criteria: being over 18 years of age, being fully oriented (time, person, place) and conscious, being able to see, hear, being able to read, write, speak and understand Turkish, being diagnosed as having obesity, being hospitalized for sleeve gastrectomy, and willing to participate in the study. The data for the study were collected using a Personal Information Form prepared by the investigators, the body cathexis scale (BCS) and the beck depression inventory (BDI) Results: Twenty two patients, 16 of whom were female, with a mean age of 31.18 +/- 7.79 years were included. The body mass index (BMI) (kg/m(2)) values recorded 1 year after the operation were significantly lower than the baseline levels (Z=-4.107; p=0.000). The mean BCS score 1 year after the operation was significantly lower than at the time of the baseline evaluation (t=3.447; p=0.002). The baseline BMI (kg/m(2)) value and BDI score were found to be positively correlated (r=0.448; p=0.036). The baseline BDI score increased with increased BMI (kg/m(2)) value, and baseline BDI score decreased with decreased BMI (kg/m(2)) value. Conclusion: The patients were found to have lost a significant amount of body weight one year after the bariatric surgery. The baseline borderline clinical depression and an intermediate level of depression were found to change toa mild depression one year after bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery was determined to have a positive effect on body image perception.Öğe Survey on the Effects of Work in Covid-19 Clinics on Anxiety-Depression and Family-Work Conflicts(Sage Publications Inc, 2023) Sisman, Hamide; Gokce, Esma; Akpolat, Refiye; Alptekin, Dudu; Gezer, Derya; Arslan, SevbanThis research was conducted to examine the effect of working in Covid clinics on anxiety-depression and family-work conflict of healthcare professionals. In a study conducted with 103 health personnel, a positive and significant relationship was found between work-family conflict scale scores and depression and anxiety scale scores (1* = 481, p < .01, 1 = 483, p < .01, respectively). As a result, employees in the Covid-19 clinic are faced with problems such as fear of transmitting the infection to their families, difficulty in carrying the burden of their children, increased levels of anxiety and depression, and social and family life being affected.Öğe The effect of Apfel risk score and fasting times on postoperative nausea and vomiting Post-Operative Nausea and Vomiting(Elsevier, 2022) Sisman, Hamide; Arslan, Sevban; Gezer, Derya; Akpolat, Refiye; Alptekin, Dudu; Gokce, EsmaBackground: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is an undesirable problem with many adverse effects on the patient. The first step toward effective treatment and prevention is to identify the patient's risk factors for PONV. This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in the General Surgery Clinic between August 2017 and August 2018 to evaluate the effect of Apfel risk score and fasting duration on PONV and draw attention to this issue. Methods: A total of 283 patients who were scheduled for elective surgery were included in the study. The patients were evaluated using the Patient Evaluation Form created by the researcher by scanning the literature, and the Apfel Risk Scoring System. Results: The solid fasting time of the patients was 18.9 +/- 28.9 h, the mean fluid fasting time was 13.9 +/- 7.4 h, the mean operation time was 133 +/- 76 min, the perceived hunger score was 3.1 +/- 3.2, and the mean thirst score was 4.3 +/- 3.2 and 16.8 +/- 18.5. When the Apfel Risk Score and the incidence of all-time postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) were compared, a significant correlation was found between the patients' solid food fasting times and the incidences of the 2nd, 4th, 8th, and 24th hours. PONV incidence (p < 0.01). Conclusion: The fasting times of the patients are longer than recommended. There is a parallel relationship between both long fasting times and the Apfel risk score and the incidence of PONV. It is recommended that institutions establish an evidence-based policy and take the necessary precautions in the preoperative evaluation of patients in terms of postoperative nausea and vomiting and during fasting periods.
